Katrina 5 years on….

It took me 5 months after Katrina to get back home to Louisiana. I spent a week in a rental car driving all along the gulf coast shooting portraits and landscapes.

I found George and Joyce Leonard near Biloxi, Mississippi. They were going through their home looking for belongings to salvage before their house was bulldozed.

Hillary Brown in his home in Chalmette, Louisiana.

Ronnie Kreger on his crab boat. Mr. Kreger is a third generation crab fisherman. Before the storm came in he took his boat inland and waited out the storm. When he came back to his home all that was left was the foundation.

Sandy Shook salvaging scrap metal.

This family from the Marigny in New Orleans were lucky their living space on the second floor was high enough to stay dry. They were one of the first families back in the neighborhood.

Maze is a graff kid, artist, and designer. Random fact: He can’t express the number 10 with his hands; he can only get to 9.5.

It’s cool when you randomly meet someone and figure out you have like 40 really good friends in common.
